Caring For The Community Soup Run

We spent time with the team from Caring for the Community Soup Run  These are a group of volunteers who in their own time come together every fortnight to help feed and clothe the homeless in the city centre of Swansea.

The team also talk to the homeless and give them much needed support.

We spoke to Hannah Loosmore who told us what items the homeless most need at this time of year.

As the team from Caring for the Community Soup Run are all volunteers they have no premises or facilities to store donations and many items are either stored at their own homes or given to other homeless charities such a Zac's Place.

The team also come up against problems with finding a place in the street to be able to set up and actually hand out items to the homeless due to the restrictions on homeless people and them entering the city centre. Hannah also tells us about how she got started.

So the big question - how can YOU help?  You can join their Facebook Group Caring for the Community Soup Run or contact Hannah directly on hloosmore@aol.com

Hannah told us about how hard it is for the homeless and how people look down on them and treat them like "scum".  She told us about one gentleman they've been helping who not that long ago had a house, a business, a wife, beautiful cars etc and in a flash lost it all.  In fact he admitted he used to see the homeless in the same way.
