Answers Wanted Over Fate Of Grant

Swansea Council's Labour leader Rob Stewart, has written to the Education Cabinet Secretary, Kirsty Williams - he's criticising cuts to the minority learner grant.

It's partly used to fund teaching children for whom English is not a first language.

Welsh Conservatives  have also submitted an Urgent Question.

Darren Millar AM, Welsh Conservative Shadow Education Secretary, has warned the budget cuts risk the educational futures of ethnic minority learners.

He said: "This budget cut is incredibly short-sighted and risks further setting back the educational attainment of ethnic minority learners.

"The Welsh Labour-led Government needs to explain why in wielding cuts to this specific grant, they have made no additional transfer to the main budgetary pot, as was previously promised.

"I have submitted an urgent question and will be raising my concerns with the Cabinet Secretary."

The following question has been submitted to the National Assembly for Wales' Llywydd for consideration:

'In light of criticism from the leader of Swansea Council, will the Cabinet Secretary explain her decision to cut the Education Improvement Grant for Schools?'
