Boy killed after being hit by a bus

The tragedy happened as the as yet unnamed boy left school in Monmouth yesterday

A boy has died after being hit by bus in Monmouth after he left school.

The tragedy happened on Monday at 3.48pm on the A4666 Hereford Road leading north of the Welsh town.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed they were called to the scene just inside the Welsh border.

He said: 

"Ambulance crews arrived to find a pedestrian, a boy, who had been involved in a collision with a bus.

"Sadly, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene scene.”

The Welsh Ambulance Service also attended in incident north of Monmouth between Withy Lane and Buckholt.

It has not been said how old the boy was.

The A466 was closed in both directions after the crash, although traffic and travel information service reported that it reopened at around 9.30pm.

Gwent Police said a fuller statement is due to be issued later today.
