Campaigners Win Cystic Fibrosis Drugs Battle!!!

Hundreds of sufferers in Wales will soon be able to get life-changing medicine on the NHS.

The Welsh Government has struck a deal with Vertex Pharmaceuticals for Orkambi and Symkevi.

It follows weeks of negotiations to try and get the same agreement for the revolutionary medicine as NHS England.

The drugs have been nearly twenty years in development and licensed for four years.

Sofia Bow's family is among those who have been campaigning to get the drugs on the NHS in Wales.

Her mum Rebecka says it's a huge relief! It's a horrible condition which affects us all day, everyday.

"Sofia has to have daily physiotherapy. She has to take over 30 tablets each day and every time she eats.

"CF is where the lungs fill up with mucus - it's like a drowning effect inside. It's like breathing through a straw whilst holding your nose. So having access to these drugs now and this medication is just going to be life-changing in so many ways.

The Bow family are waiting to find out from the hospital when Sofia will get her medication.

We have been told high priority patients will get access to treatment in December and all those eligible will be offered the drugs from 2020.
