Kind Earth serves shoppers in Stradey District Centre
The first vegan supermarket has opened its doors in Llanelli.
Kind Earth provides organic and locally sourced produce from its shop in Stradey District Centre.
The business is owned and run by Matt Rogerson who told us what kind of products shoppers can pick up:
"We've got fresh organic veg, we've got pastas. we've got dry food. We've got freshly baked bread from the Gower cakes, refigerator stuff, frozen stuff.
"Everything that you could need in your weekly shopping basically, but all vegan."
The business was supported with a grant of £4,435 through Carmarthenshire Council’s business start-up fund which is linked to job creation.
The money was used to purchase equipment including an EPOS system, fridges and freezers, shelving, trollies, baskets and light fittings.
The business is a plastic free zone offering paper bags and paper carriers to customers as packaging.
In addition to selling groceries, the store will run a terracycle scheme and host to a number of events including litter picking days and workshops on a wide range of topics to improve lifestyles.
Matt said the store also aims to bring the local community closer together:
"Once a month we're going to try and do a litter sweep so I'll be advertising it on all the social media pages and providing the equipment.
"People can suggest areas of Llanelli that need tidying up and we'll be goin gout and cleaning up as best we can."
Carmarthenshire County Council Leader, Cllr Emlyn Dole said:
“I am happy that we were able to provide funding to support Kind Earth to develop a new business that will benefit the community and offer people a wider choice of food.
"As a council we remain committed to strengthening our local economy and giving the people of Carmarthenshire as much choice as possible."
