Get Your Skates on to See in New Year

Waterfront Winterland open on New Year's Eve for first time

There’ll be a festive first for Swansea on Monday night – you’ll be able to see in a new year whilst skating on the city’s own rink.

New Year’s Eve skating on Waterfront Winterland’s Ice Rink will run until around 15 minutes into 2019.

The unique midnight skating session will run from 11.15pm. Skating access is on a first come, first served basis; although reservations aren't essential at this stage, pre-booking is advisable to avoid disappointment.

There will be a music and entertainment programme leading up to midnight headlined by Welsh singer-songwriter John Adams. His critically-acclaimed music has shades of Stereophonics and James Blunt and has seen him support performers as diverse as Take That, Lemar and Katherine Jenkins.

He'll be performing three sets from 9pm, including one that crosses the midnight divide between 2018 and 2019.

South Wales-based Sayers Events and 11th Hour are managing Waterfront Winterland this year, in association with Swansea Council.

Norman Sayers, of Sayers Events said: “We want to make the start of 2019 extra special – and what better way than ice skating info the New Year?

“A Swansea Christmas wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Waterfront Winterland - it’s a magical attraction and we’re making it even more memorable with this first midnight session."

This year the Admiral Ice Rink has a roof for the first time. Tickets are on sale for the rink at the heart of Waterfront Winterland, which is entertaining thousands on Museum Park until January 6.

The attraction features a family funfair including a traditional carousel and a 33m-high giant wheel, offering expansive views of Swansea Bay and the city.

The food area features a grill unit for burgers and sausages, a confectionery unit for sweet treats, coffee and crepes, and a new bar from Swansea business Juniper Place.

Fairground rides and food outlets will stay open until 12.15am on New Year’s Eve.
