Help Stop The Block!

Welsh Water is calling for us all to be responsible about what we are flushing down our loos.

It comes as customers are forced to use alternatives to toilet roll.

One provider in England is already experiencing problems. Northumbrian Water customers are flushing wipes, kitchen roll and newspaper and its clogging up pipes.

It says blockages could be "devastating" to both homes and the environment.

We are being urged to put wet wipes, kitchen roll or newspaper in the bin and not into the sewage system.

Welsh Water has issued a statement saying: "We know that this is a difficult time. We also know that the water and waste water services we provide play a key role in protecting public health and safeguarding the customers and communities we serve.

"We are now taking extra steps so that we can protect our colleagues while also maintaining our services to customers. You may notice that this will impact on some of our services (such as stopping or rearranging some home visits unless they are essential) and we may be taking longer than usual to answer phone calls. Therefore you may find it quicker to use our online services.

"If you’re impacted by COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and concerned about your water bill, please get in touch so we can try and help you

"We will keep you informed of any other changes through updates on our website and via our social media channels on Facebook & Twitter.

"We apologise for this but will do everything we can to continue providing our essential services. Thank you for bearing with us."
