Man charged with attempted murder after crash between car and pedestrian

22 year-old still critical after Newport incident on 8th October


A man's been charged with attempted murder after a crash between a car and pedestrian in Newport.

A 22 year-old man is still in a critical condition following the incident on the 8th of October on Wharf Road.

A 24-year-old man from the Newport area, who was arrested has now been charged with attempted murder. 

A 38 year old man and a 38 year old woman from the Newport area have also both been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and they have both been released under investigation. 

The force would like to track down the driver of a white transit van who may have informatio relating to the inquiry.

A statement said:

"Officers continue to appeal for information from anyone that could help with their enquiries and would be particularly interested in hearing from the driver of a white transit van who drove along Wharf Road and spoke to two traffic wardens around the time of the collision. If you are that driver, please be reassured that you’re not in any trouble, however you may have vital information that could help our enquiries.
