Parliament Debate 'April's Law'

April Jones

Five year old murdered by paedophile

The family of murdered school girl April Jones have called for tougher sentences for sex offenders in Parliament.

"April's Law" was debated at Westminster Hall after a petition calling for sex offenders to remain on the register for life reached more than 100,000 signatures.

Five-year-old April was killed by paedophile Mark Bridger after being snatched from outside her home in Machynlleth, in Powys, in October 2012.

Bridger was given a life sentence for her murder.

April's sister Jazmin Jones has previously said the family was hopeful it would get the law passed.

The family has also called for the internet to be better policed over images of child abuse.
