The youngster was with his team at the Phoenix Centre in Townhill on Tuesday when he suffered a suspected cardiac arrest.
The boy was given CPR by a coach and parent who resuscitated him before he was transferred to the Heath Hospital in Cardiff.
We have been told the team's coaches have spoken with the child's parents this afternoon.
A Facebook post from Penlan Juniors AFC says the player is now "awake and talking."
"He'll be monitored over the next 48 hours, but big steps to what will hopefully be a full recovery."
The club goes on to say: "We would like to thank you all for the support and messages that we've received and will pass them all on."
