Plaid AM Gets Behind Veteran's Charity!

Talks to help safeguard the future of a veteran's charity in Wales have taken place.

Care After Combat is facing a funding crisis. Its North Wales office is set to close and its Swansea office is at risk.

Representatives from the charity have met with Plaid Cymru AM Bethan Jenkins.

LISTEN to what she had to say following discussion on Friday afternoon here:

Plaid party leader Adam Price and MP Jonathan Davies have also written to the Ministry of Defence.

Care after Combat's founder and CEO Jim Davidson OBE recently donated the box office takings from his show at Swansea's Grand Theatre to the cash strapped charity. He has also pledged to donate any future earnings from his shows in the city to the organisation too.

The comedian told us: "The fact that our Welsh operations is suffering financially- something had to be done so I've given the box office money that should go in my back pocket and the tax man's back pocket to our Welsh office of Care after Combat. They work very hard and are delivering a fantastic package. Unfortunately the money is getting less and unless I stepped in we would be in danger of ceasing our operations in Wales."

Jim has also written to First Minister Leighton Andrews to spell out how dire the situation is for charities like his.

"Everyone in the charitable sector at the moment has been ignored by the Government because of this Brexit nonsense going on. I can't see it getting any better - so it's now time for the people to take over - for people to say we are not going to wait for you Government, you can sit there and do what you want. We are going to carry on and deliver what needs to be done."

A week ago Care After Combat held its very first ball in South Wales at Celtic Manor.

Neath mezzo soprano Katherine Jenkins was among the stars who pledged items for a fundraising auction. A meet and greet with the star at her St David's Hall concert earlier this week went for £800.
