Scarlets have strengthened their push for a play-off place in the Pro12.
Scarlets currently reside in third position after a victory over Benetton Treviso at Parc y Scarlets on Friday night.
With two tries secured in the first half Scarlet had hoped to kick on for the bonus point victory but Treviso’s resilience and Scarlets errors made it a difficult second half for the home side before crossing for a third try to put some distance between them and the visitors.
Speaking after the game head coach Wayne Pivac said: “It’s definitely four points gained as opposed to one lost. We talked about shortening our game up and being more direct. We turned too much ball over but all in all we’re reasonably happy.
“We were going for five [points] and just about got it. The boys were going really hard for the fourth try. It was certainly an aim to try and get the five. You have to readjust during games and we had to make changes at different stages during the game with a lot of experience coming off and a lot of young guys coming on.
“To get the lead back, secure the win and to go out over the seven points was a pretty good effort.”
Scarlets will take on Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium in three weeks time after some time off to refresh ahead of the final push to the play-offs.
Pivac went on to say: “With 53 points we’re probably close to what we got last year. We’re pleased with where we’re at. We talked long and hard about this game from where we want to be at end of the season. We’ve done a lot of hard work in this block against some very hard sides in Edinburgh, Ulster and Connacht. We felt that if we could get across the line in this one it would be the icing on the cake
“The boys have earned a rest next week, then we’ll come back and reassess where we go from there.”
Scarlets will return to the Parc on Saturday 2nd April to take on Cardiff Blues before the final home game of the season on Saturday 16th April against Glasgow Warriors.
