Swansea to Get Giant Lidl Store

New shop will cover 35,500 sq ft

It's just been announced that Lidl is taking over the Homebase site in Parc Tawe.

Last year, Homebase announced it was closing 42 of its stores and Swansea was one of them.

Lidl is currently based next door but will now move to the giant site, increasing its size by 255 per cent.

The new shop's expected to open early summer, making it one of the retail park's main anchor stores.

Lidl currently occupies a 10,000 sq ft unit on a lease expiring in 2023.  It will take the entire 35,500 sq ft previously occupied by Homebase.

Lidl will take a 20-year lease and continue to trade from its existing unit until the new store in finished.

Michael Morris, Chief Executive of Property company Picton, said: ‘By executing a bold strategy of securing vacant possession, releasing a restrictive covenant and working with one of our existing occupiers, we have been able to secure a high quality anchor for the largest unit on the park on a long lease.’
