Imagine you're at a table top sale.
You're browsing through books at a stall and find a Harry Potter book you think would sit well in your collection?
You buy it from the seller and that becomes yours for £1?
Purchase complete and a bargain right?
You get home and find that under further inspection (Amongst other purchases that you'll probably use once and then forget about!) you find that the Harry Potter book you've purchased is a rare first edition!
Once you've picked your jaw up from off the floor, need to have this confirmed and yes it is.
The hard copy, published by Bloomsbury in June 1997 was from a print run of just 500 identified by two errors in the novel's text.
There is a misspelling of "philosopher's" on the back page and a double mention of "1 wand" on page 53 in an equipment list.
On JK Rowling's birthday, it sold at auction for an eye watering price of £28,500!
A 54-year-old office worker who did not want to be named has said: "I can't believe it. It's what I'd hoped for but I never really believed my book would make that price"
