Swansea Bay Young Business Dragons

‘Swansea Bay Young Business Dragons 2011' sponsored by Wales & West Utilities is a new annual event organised by Swansea Bay Partnership in association with Careers Wales West. The contest was open to Year 9 students from secondary schools in Neath Port Talbot, Swansea and Carmarthenshire. Teams were invited to take part and challenged to create and develop a business idea around the theme of the 2012 Olympic Games. The competition will took place over 6 months with teams competing in 3 rounds including an interschool competition, area semi finals and regional final.

Local businesses were brought in to mentor and work with the teams during the competition, helping them develop their business ideas and marketing plans.

The winning team scooped the title of "Swansea Bay Business Dragons 2011” and a cash prize of £1,000.

Well done to Team‘PPP' from St Joseph's Roman Catholic School in Port Talbot who won the final with their business idea Power Pressure Pad.

The idea would see energy being produced when small power pressure pads placed underneath the floor around the Olympic stadiums are stood on. The pressure would result in a spring inside the Power Pressure Pad being compressed which would in turn force a magnet against a metal coil, resulting in a small electrical charge being produced.

Siany from Total Access hosted the event.
